Tribes, Chat, Dye, and Signs

Lots of additions for just two days time. Now when you hover over players it adds additional information to their title, which is just their first name by default. On hover it will expand into first, last, tribe, and level. NPCs now hide their title, until you look at them.

The chat console is a lot more colorful and with italic or bold text sometimes. Now you can copy/paste from the chat field too! When you chat normally it will only be within hearing distance to other players. You have to broadcast (/b or the \ hotkey) to speak to everyone, in the familiar purple color. Tells or whispers also work in the green color, with partial name support and the same hotkey as ML. Tribe chat is another channel just for members of your group which shows in an orange color. You need to build a tribe relic in order to lead a new tribe, and then you can invite recruits. Recruits don’t have permissions to invite others into the tribe until they are promoted, but until then they can use tribe gates and chat. There will be a new section on the leaderboard for strongest tribes. Max HP now increases as you level and a new /stats command has been added to judge your own strength. So when you equip a 2-handed weapon like a hammer (which now does AOE damage) it will dramatically increase your attack value.

A semi-complicated dye process is now implemented. Despite being a retro 2D RPG this is the most realistic process I’ve seen in game. It uses real world plants and boiling water using heated stones among other things. I’m not sure how instructional I want to be with some of the processes in the game, or if I should let players discover and share how the world works. Dyes open up many different clothing/armor options.. which are slowly making their way from the spreadsheets into the game. Some new armors made with pelts and hides are available for males and females. Not all weapons and armor will be implemented when I put the game up for testing, but there will be enough to start with. Thankfully the game works much like ML where I can make changes in real time – though it is even more advanced. If I want to reduce the blood that spills out when an NPC is killed (it is a bit much) then I can just download the script and it shows a full code editing window in my browser where I can make changes and re-upload the effect. Using this system I can add new weapons, armors, furniture, or npcs while the game is being played.

I can attach any kind of information I want to any object and have it save in the database. With this ability I created a signpost object. With enough wood one can place this anywhere in the world and then etch their own message into it for any wanderers to read. Though if the message makes someone angry they may just decide to chop your sign down. With objects like this, and the flexible tribe system, I hope that the players can make the world their own. Whether it will be a hostile or peaceful world depends on who you invite to play the game I suppose..
