This is a small update to the Mystera Legends client that fixes some bugs; mainly the one that crashes you if your client attempts to display certain effects. Also mods affecting the attack speed of players require the new client to be downloaded or else they won't work. Players can still connect with the old client, but why not download this?

As some of you know the ML source code has been up for sale. I wanted to see ML go somewhere and it's been years since I've had the motivation to update it myself. So I think everyone will be happy to know that Mark Hoskins has bought the source code and taken up the ML torch. I've given him control over the website and forums as well. He is the most capable person I can think of to inherit the position with solid scripting abilities, similar views to my own on administration, and a long history with ML. I know Mark has his sights set on bug fixes and exciting new features, so let's all thank Mark and throw our support behind him to lead us into a new era for Mystera Legends!

Now you can download and set up your own ML server. There are instructions in the 'host server' link in the menu. The official server will probably be going down soon. There is no longer an account lookup, account IDs are retrieved immediatly. The player count has been modified to show the total number of players across servers. The statistics page will no longer show the official server stats once it's taken down, but I will give instructions on how to set up your own stats page around that time. I should be in the forums from time to time to try and answer questions.

On 10/20 we had a player wipe to start fresh after the auto-leveling cheat was fixed. In addition to that many things were changed about the game which has resulted in a more fun and balanced playing experience.
-Monsters now have a respawn time after they die so traveling around is now required to level
-Many areas were expanded and experience gain was tripled!
-Strength requirements are now in place for wearing armor to balance fighters with magic users
-Many crash fixes and other game balancing features were implemented
ML is 1 year old now! It has come a long ways and many thanks go out to the players and administrators that have helped it on its journey. Happy Leveling!

This is a security update mainly. It prevents anyone from tampering with packets and sending their own. This should help bring the frequency of server crashes way down. Some other minor bugfixes and features were impemented as well. Server is at 1.32, client at .982. You will need the new client to join the server.

This version uses the old networking library (no more lag!) but with some fixes (hopefully no more freezing) and also should let you log back in without restarting the entire client. This hasn't been tested thoroughly yet, that's your job, so updates may be coming in the near future.

I've been working a lot on ML lately fixing bugs and adding fun things to do. A questmaster has been added who pays you gold to hunt down certain monsters all over ML. Fishing has been reimplemented and is profitable and fun. Farming has been added and there seems to be big money in crops! The most exciting feature is house/guild hall purchasing, without needing an admin! You just shop for a house you like and that is in your price range, then pay at the door. Rent is based on how fancy and convenient the house is and is also paid at the door. You can give out keycodes to people you trust who can then enter your house. Like you might give one to your wife after getting married/engaged. That's right a chapel was mapped and people seem to be getting engaged left and right! New houses are being added and features being planned everyday lately. Lets make this free game one of the best! Update: Taming, new spells, and ignore were added! In game political system in the works as well.

This release was planned even before 0.95 was released. I knew there would be a number of bugs to work out and I figured instead of a slow closed testing process I would unleash .95 on the world(10 ppl?) and then fix bugs like crazy. That method seems to work best for getting stuff done. So things have gone according to schedule and .96 should address many issues present in the .95 release which addressed .90 issues. I'm sure .97 is around the corner... Ok I think I've filled up my quota for this news block.

These releases will be tested for a short time to discover any initial problems and then I will be resetting accounts according to the vote in forums.
This is a bugfix release for the client and server, meaning no new tiles/sounds were added, just fixes.
Client changes:
-Crashes and other illegal application errors should be fixed.
-Networking code rewritten
Server changes:
-Server processes are in one thread instead of 2(this should hopefully fix server crashes and the inventory bug)
-Networking code rewritten
-Lag improvement for spells and effects
-Warping/Item duplication exploits patched
(note some bugs may still exist but are believed to be fixed due to rewritten code, other bugs have been tested and are fixed for sure)
Due to the directplay code being replaced by SDL_net code the client/server can now be compiled for linux or macintosh. I'll compile a linux binary after I finish other projects and depending on the demand for one. Note that directplay allowed for multiple clients behind a NAT device such as a router. I believe the server will now only support 1 client behind a router. You could get a switch to get around this limitation, and encourage IPv6 adoption.

The new website was designed with a simple and pleasing look and will make the website compatible with all browsers, finally! It should also load a lot faster since there aren't so many images to load like before. Many sections of the website were way too old and those are updated or in the process of being updated. There are lots of changes going on here at mysteralegends.com and many more to come, for the better of course!

Alright finally the new server with matching client are up for download. You all chose to let it free before proper testing so don't complain too much if something bad happens to your character/account. Remember the client isnt free of bugs either.. but it is true that this way bugs will get reported and hopefully be fixed faster. I wont list all the features since there are too many to remember but most of them are for admins anyways. Have fun and dont forget to check the new statistics page with level rankings!

If you read that title out it rhymes- I planned the day and version perfectly..not really. Anyways here are the features in the new client:
*NPCs and fellow players move smoothly rather than tile hopping
*Drop quantity dialog box, try dropping a stackable item(gold)
*Clientside chat logging, should be in chatlog.txt
*More graphics in this client including rounded paths etc...
*Bugfix : players with 3 lettered names had no chat balloons
*Bugfix : chat balloons jumping around after changing direction
*Bugfix : Hopefully no more crashing the server with funky chats
*Other bugfixes I should remember but you probably dont care
I will be doing lots of work on the server now to increase stability and add cool features like an in game mail system and player stats on the website. Ill try to keep you updated through the news more often since I probably wont be on as much as while I was testing the client.

This client brings music and sound effects to ML! The next major update is the day and night cycle now in effect. Also some optimizations were made to the graphics in an effort to bring frame rates up on older computers. Most maps will not have music yet because we need to go around select music to play on each map. You can type /music and /sound to turn off the music/sndfx. Have fun, and be patient in case new bugs pop up I will try to find them and fix the problem as soon as possible. Speaking of bugs a lot of little ones were fixed including the scroll bug.

I just went out and purchased a dedicated server machine to run the ML official server on my cable connection. This should make things run smoother and with less lag for a long while. Also to let you know this site will be moving to mysteralegends.com soon, there will be a redirect so you wont be caught off guard. The newest client should be ready sometime in the next 2 weeks hopefully.

This version does introduce some lag improvements but the main difference is the look and feel of the game. The game has graphically skinned windows and buttons so make your own and send them in- I may just use yours as the default!

Its finally here! We are working on getting the servers up to date, go ahead and download the client and see if you can connect to one. There some issues with certain computers not being able to run the new client. We are trying to figure out what it is as fast as possible and there will likely be more server and client releases coming soon to fix new things that arise. Since the client didnt get much testing after its completion we need you all to test it out over the next few days until we can verify it is stable. Have fun!

This is a great release, the server is really maturing now with lots of nice new features. Here are a few noteworthy ones:
-Now a windows app rather than console. This means you can chat and execute commands from the server itself. Also all players currently playing on the server are displayed in a list with their id numbers.
-Threadsafe(no more crashes)
-A /who command to show whos online
-Server welcome message now works
-Various other things I should probably put here..
So if you are a server host msg me and I will send you this version. If you want to be a server host, watch the forums and I will post when there is an opening. What about the new client you ask? It's not too far off, there will be many exciting new features to play with. When I'm finished with all of them I will be releasing the new client along with a new server since a new standard is being developed to allow for bigger inventories and more unique looking characters. Keep playing and expanding your servers, and before you know it the new client will be here.

The Tiledata update doesn't have much more on top of this morning's update, there were just a few little tid-bits I wanted to iron out before too many people downloaded it.
I've also updated the FAQ to include information regarding new tilesets, so if your after more info just pay it a visit.

You might have noticed the server has been down lately. This is no accident, the official server is going to be offline while I work on both a new client and server. Check the new site regularly for updates maybe some screens now and then. There is a wish list for new features in the forums. In a way this is like closed beta as I will be recruiting certain players to help me test the new software, but not all is lost! I am also trying to find a home for a temporary world to be hosted using the old server and client while I work. So hopefully there will still be a place for you to level and quest until the new releases...

website. We certainly hope you enjoy using the website, as we enjoyed making it.
Not all the sections are complete yet, although we assure you they will be
completed over the next couple of days. Currently I am working on getting the
forums running. They should be up soon, although those themselves will need to
be re-designed and heavily modified which will take awhile.
And while I'm at it. What of Phantom RPG? Well I know that a lot of Phantom RPG
members come here, so here is what's happening. Currently the DNS server is
down. This causes weird effects when people try to access the website.
Occasionally you will get lucky and be able to get on. But most of the time the
page won't be found. I have no idea when it will be fixed, I was expecting it to
be working today... But obviously not. I do encourage you to keep checking it
though. When the DNS server is officially fixed, I will post another update
about it here.

The interest in this project is more than what I had expected, which is great! I started this thinking I was on my own and would have to rip and draw all of my own media, but some of you are already offering to volunteer some time to make the game better in some way. Maybe it would be helpful for me to outline what is needed most and least right now for this project. This project could use, in order of importance:
1)A bigger community, spread the word!
2)Pleasing graphical theme to skin the game's windows.
3)New sprites and tiles to revamp graphics(While maintaining the 2D look we know and love)
